Frustrations

(Scroll down if you are just here for Jake pictures. =D )
Something no one ever tells you - being a new mom can be so frustrating! I always thought I would instinctively know what my baby needed when he cried. Oh the days when I was young and naive. Yesterday was probably the worst. Jake was crying and crying. I had fed him, changed him, burped him, walked around and rocked him, sang to him, bounced on the exercise ball with him....you name it, I had tried it. He kept rooting around like he was hungry, but no matter what I tried - bottle, breast, binky - he wouldn't take it. He would try it for a second, and then pull away and scream. I was crying, he was crying, it was a lose-lose situation. And then I found this gem.

That is right, my friends. Nearly eight hours of recorded vacuums.

He calmed down IMMEDIATELY, and was asleep within ten minutes. Now, whether that was because he was exhausted from the screaming, or because of the sound, I don't know. But when he woke up again at 12:30, he ate and was calm for an hour just cuddling with me in our bed, and then he slept until almost six! It was wonderful.

My poor baby has been having really bad reflux issues. I think that is the main culprit of all his fussiness lately. We took him in today, and he was prescribed prevacid. I really hope it helps him! And also, that it is just baby reflux, and not true GERD. If he does have GERD, it's my fault, and I feel awful. I've had it since I was a kid, and I had two ulcers before we finally got it under control, and I'll be on medication for it for the rest of my life. It's awful, and incredibly painful when I don't have medicine for it, and I would HATE for him to have to deal with that. Especially on top of everything else he has had to deal with.

Speaking of things he's had to deal with, we have finally got some good news - No kidney reflux!! We went up to PCMC last week Thursday for his VCUG (like an in-motion x-ray of his urinary tract), and we got the results at the doctor's office today! I guess they said that on the left side there might possibly be a small cyst that could have caused an infection and could cause future infections, but it doesn't look likely. It's more likely that this is just a fluke, but that in the future if he has an unexplained fever to have them check his urine just in case. But it looks like we are all clear with that!

And a little update on me. (Sorry, it's a tad boastful.) But 3.5 weeks after giving birth, I am back at my pre-pregnancy weight, and back in my old jeans! (Buttoned up and everything!) Of course, I still have about 20 lbs to go to not be "overweight" and 35-40 to really feel good about myself again, but I think nursing will make it easier. (And hopefully this jelly belly will go away fast! It's still weird and gross, even if I can hide it better now.) Too bad the stretch marks will probably take laser surgery to get rid of...=(

And now, what you all actually came here for - Jake pictures!!
These first ones are of him getting his very LAST antibiotic through his PICC line!
(And the second one is my personal favorite. He really does make the BEST faces!)

You're going to do what??

I HATE THIS GAME!!!

What's that you say? I can't hear you over my crying!

Oh, this is my LAST antibiotic? Ok, I'll chill out.

Final flush! This is it!

He usually didn't fuss at all during that, but it made for some great pictures!

We also got a bouncer for him. He only tolerates it for about ten minutes before he goes into total meltdown mode because no one is holding him. (We really need to break that habit...)

Hmm...what is this thing?

Ok, I don't think I like this anymore.

Get me out!!

My diaper bag that I ordered FOREVER ago FINALLY got here the other day. The girl that made it had some family issues, and because it was so late, she threw in the blanket as a free gift. (I ordered it even before my baby shower.)

The front of the diaper bag. (Sorry, this is the best picture I have of it.)

She even personalized the blanket! It's about a 12x12, and just a little security blanket. But I think it's adorable!

The other side.

And finally, I will leave you with my favorite picture from the night Jake was born. I'm sad that I took this with my phone and not with the actual camera. So sorry for the poor quality, but I think it's just such a special moment, and I wanted to share.

Daddy and Jake getting to know each other.

Thanks for the link to the vacuum noise. I hope to remember this when my baby colic.

It's fantastic you're in your pre-pregnancy weight. I hope to be able to fit into my clothes soon too. We'll see. :)

P.S. Baby Jake is just so adorable. I vote he looks JUST LIKE YOU!!!

Thanks, Cassie! I bet you will bounce back really fast. I am still hoping to lose about 30 lbs though.

you can't blame yourself for problems with GERD. if he wasn't being breastfed or something else you could control was going on, yes. But sometimes, it just happens. he's actually a pretty cute little bugger though.
