Please Pray for Jake

Jake was life flighted from the Elko, Nevada hospital last night to Primary Children's Hospital in SLC. He definitely has a UTI and they are suspecting meningitis, but testing for everything.

A little background - Jake has spells where he will go blue around the mouth and on his hands and feet, and it lasts about a minute. On our way home from Reno, he had one such episode, but it lasted for an hour. We tried everything to make him cry to get him to pink up, but nothing was working. We decided to take him in. Of course, he pinked back up by the time the doctor got in there, but they tested for a lot of things and found the UTI. His white blood cell count was also high, and they told us he was likely septic and needed to be admitted. They also wanted to do a spinal tap. We refused, because the people doing it had only done it a handful of times, and never on a baby this small. So they called PMC here in Salt Lake, and they said he should be flown out. I flew with him, and Tyler flew the rest of the way.

When we got here, he was arching his back and screaming in a very high pitched sort of screech. VERY unlike him. His back was arching so hard he was just about standing on his head. They put an IV in his head and started essential fluids, because they wouldn't let him eat. And they ended up doing the spinal tap. (I had to leave the room for both. I could hear him screaming all the way down the hall, and I HATE that I was not strong enough to be in there with him.) It ended up failing. He is too small, and they'll need to do an u/s in the morning to see if there is even a good pocket of fluid to get a sample from.

They are treating him with the antibiotics they would be using if meningitis was confirmed anyways, and he is acting so much better! I am hoping this keeps up, and I can't wait for him to be 100% again so we can go home and be comfortable.

It is so heartbreaking to hear my little boy hurt. I hate that they keep having to stick him, and wish more than anything I could just take it all for him! My body is so much stronger than his. No one should have to deal with this much at only 9 days old. =(

Oh my gosh Tristan! that would be SOOO awful! I am so sorry that you have to go through that and that Jake has to go through that as well. It reminds me so much of when my nephew was life flighted to PMC and was sooo sick, had chemo and bone marrow transplant, I am so glad that it's looking like Jake is going to be doing better. I will definitely be praying for your little boy! You truly do have a great love for you son. Hang in there babe. I'll be praying for all of you!

congratulations again!! You have a baby now, yay :)
The circumcision is rough but you don't have to be there for it. At least, I wasn't. Then just nurse him right after. You'd be surprised how quickly they forget pain while nursing.
Call you pediatrician to double check but you can give him a little tylenol before you bring him in.

You're going to love being a mom :D I think every baby hates tummy time until they can move around more, don't stress about it.
